Charlotte Catholic rugby headed to national championships

Charlotte Catholic's high school rugby team will play for a national championship this weekend in Pittsburgh, Pa.

The Cougars qualified by winning the N.C. High School Rugby championships, and then beating teams from Tennessee, Florida and Louisiana in the South Championships last month.

Catholic is led by senior Joe Cowley, a member of the national U-17 and U-18 teams the past two seasons.

Catholic faces last year's national champs, California's Jesuit High, in its first-round match Friday.
