Butler girls ready for Ardrey Kell's soccer challenge

Wednesday night at 7, Butler will try to reach the N.C. 4A soccer championship for the first time.

Standing in the way is Ardrey Kell, ranked No. 2 in the state, and looking for a second straight finals berth.

Ardrey Kell, the home team Wednesday, is unbeaten and has stopped Butler 3-1 and 1-0 this season.

Butler is led by Sarah Gilmore (11 goals) and Victoria Fichman (10). Amanda Welsh has seven goals. The Bulldogs haven’t given up a goal in the postseason, sparked by stellar defensive play from senior Jordan Brisley, sophomore Anna Parr, senior Julia Lucas and junior Kristine Culicerto. Goalie Carly Rives has 14 shutouts and only 11 goals scored against her.
