Donate with Dodgeball at South Meck

South Mecklenburg senior running back Tim Palmer made a big contribution to help the Sabres reach the N.C. 4AA state football semifinals this season. Now, he looks for some help on his own to raise money for A Child's Place.

The third annual South Meck Charity Dodgeball Classic is scheduled for Friday, from 2:30 to 5 p.m. in the school auditorium. Palmer helped create the fundraiser two years ago and the classic has raised more than $2,000 for A Child's Place.

Up to 30 teams are expected to participate, with students and teachers contributing $5 each to play. The group also sells tournament T-shirts. Trophies are awarded to the team with the best uniforms and the team who wins the tournament.

The public is welcome to watch and you don't have to play to donate. If you're interested in donating, you can e-mail for more information; or checks can made out to A Child's Place and mailed to: South Mecklenburg High School, 8900 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210.
