Shelby, Gastonia Forestview boys advance to state final

GASTONIA FORESTVIEW 70, CONCORD 68: Gastonia Forestview's boys rallied from nine points down in the fourth quarter to beat Concord 70-68 in the N.C. 3A Western regional final Saturday at the Special Events Center.

Tournament MVP Jack Sumner scored 18 of his 22 points in the second half, when he made four 3-point shots. Sumner hit two free throws with eight seconds left to win it. Concord had a chance to tie with two seconds remaining but the Spiders missed a layup attempt and lost a chance for a second N.C. 3A championship berth in three years.

DeJuan Means had 19 points and 7 rebounds for the Jaquars (25-6). Jacquise Moore had 19 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals for Concord and teammate Chance Rucker had 22 points and 7 rebounds.

SHELBY 53, EAST LINCOLN 45: Shelby eliminated East Lincoln from the playoffs for the second straight year, ended East's 23-game win streak. Shelby (28-2), which beat East Lincoln (27-5) in the regional semifinals last season, got 12 points from Nick Stamp and 10 from Eric Mayo. Keith Rendleman had 18 points and 6 rebounds for East Lincoln, which led 13-5 after the first quarter, but was outscored 28-16 in the next two.
