Providence baseball No. 16 in national poll

Providence High’s baseball team is No. 16 nationally in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper preseason poll.

The Panthers, 21-10 last season and an N.C. 4A semifinalist, are the lone ranked team from the Carolinas. Providence is also ranked No. 1 in 4A the Impact Baseball preseason poll.

Six starters return for coach Danny Hignight, including all-conference shortstop C.A. Clayton, leading hitter Tyler Zupcic (Appalachian State signee), All-Observer third baseman Richie Shaffer (Clemson signee) and catcher Matt Lee (Wingate signee).
