Langston, can someone please explain to me why two number one seeded teams got placed into the same sectional? The Butler girls had earned the right to host their own sectional. Most number one seeded teams usually receive that honor. They had to travel to Marion to play the Lady Titans on their home floor to claim the sectional crown. My problem is that in all my years of following the Lady Titans I have never heard of two number one's having to face each other in a sectional final. I thought the whole purpose of seeding teams is to have all four number one seeds advance to the regionals. We had three of the four teams from the Southwestern 4-A Conference in our sectional. East Meck had to travel to Freedom to play the Lady Patriots on their home floor for the sectional title. They were the lone exception. I find it rather odd that Mallard Creek, a team we destroyed in the Freedom Christmas Tournament and a number two seed, avoided us and some how we get Butler. Now I know that this is the last year of the current allignment, and it makes it all the more strange that this happened in this particular year. Thank goodness, that the powers that be appear to have set it up to have an all Mecklenburg regional. Now before any one gets all bent out of shape, if you have evidence of this happening before please tell me. I have been researching this covering the last twenty years and I can't find an instance where this has happened before. This would have been our fourth straight trip to the regionals had we not run into Butler. If the scheduled host schools were pre-arranged then that's fine, but it doesn't excuse the fact that two number one seeds had to play each other before the regionals. Fair or not it's the mere appearance of collusion that people need to pay attention to. I'm not trying to take anything away from the Butler team. They are awesome and deserve to be where their at. I'm just pointing out that this situation, to my knowledge, has never happened before and would like some clarification. thanks
