Four Meck players picked for all-star game

Four Mecklenburg County high school players have been selected for the N.C./S.C. All-Star Basketball Classic on March 21 at Socastee (S.C.) High.

Hopewell’s Brandyn Curry and North Mecklenburg’s Andre Marhold will play in the boys’ game, and West Charlotte’s Nikki Burton and Butler’s Celeste Stewart will play in the girls’ game.

The girls’ game will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by the boys’ game. Tickets will be $10.

The N.C. boys’ team also includes Garrius Adams and Tom Tankelewicz (Middle Creek), Josh Davis (Athens Drive), Calvin Harris (Mount Tabor), Earnest Ross (Panther Creek), K.J. Sherrill (West Rowan), Tommy Spagnola (Ashe County) and Trey Sumler (Nash Central). Lee County’s Reggie Peace is the coach, and Morehead’s John Harder is assistant.

The N.C. girls team includes Lakevia Boykin (Southeast Raleigh), Amber Calvin and Jazmine Cooper (South View), Kelsey Evans and Sarah Wollett (Wakefield), Ali Ford (Morganton Freedom), Helen Terry (Greensboro Dudley) and Erinn Thompson (Bishop McGuinness). Fayetteviille Byrd’s Tony Denning is the coach, and Murphy’s Cissy Dyer is assistant.
