Catholic's Oddo named N.C. Shrine Bowl coach


Charlotte Catholic football coach Jim Oddo was named coach of the N.C. Shrine Bowl team Monday.

Oddo will direct the state's top 44 seniors against those from South Carolina in the benefit game Dec. 19 at Wofford's Gibbs Stadium in Spartanburg.

Mike Newsome (Butler) and Scott Young (West Rowan) will be N.C. assistants, along with Lenon Fisher (East Bladen), Stephen Davis (Greensboro Dudley) and Anthony Barbour (Smithfield-Selma).

Louis Lineberger (Johnsonville) will be South Carolina's coach, with assistants Jet Turner (Clover), Bob Hanna (Irmo), Art Craig (Timberland), James Thompson (Carver's Bay) and Mike Hawkins (Laurens).

Both staffs will add an assistant coach soon, according to Shrine Bowl officials.
