Butler to wrestle for 4A title

Butler won two matches in the N.C. 4A dual-team wrestling playoffs Friday to advance to the state championship Saturday.

The Bulldogs (21-3) will wrestle at Cary (35-0) at 6 p.m. for the title.

On Friday, Butler eliminated Northwest Guilford and Concord Robinson (a 40-34 score). The match was postponed from Thursday.

Butler is attempting to become the first Mecklenburg County team to win a dual-team championship.

The last team to reach the final was Independence in 1998, which was coached by Billy Puckett, who is Butler's current coach.

Go Dawgs... Unranked, unrecognized and a Cinderella Story. Awesome finish for Billy Puckett & crew!

Great job bull dogs! It would have been nice to have a little Observer coverage since we won the freakin Western Reginals! I bet if Tommy Knotts was coaching this team there would be front page color pictures. Thanks for your support

Unfortunately, wrestling gets no coverage. The team Butler beat to get to the finals, Robinson of Concord, was ranked in the top ten most of the year. I had to go to NCMat.com to find out that Butler had won. Observer, please give us a break.

Butler fans, stop crying because you can't beat Knotts. According to your logic, if Knotts was coaching wrestling then it would be the most popular sport, right? Take your losses to Indy like men!

I agree that it is ridiculous that the Butler Bulldogs did not get a full article in the Charlotte Observer for this amazing win Friday night at Robinson. These guys work hard and compete hard, and they deserve more credit than they are getting in the press.
