Saturday: 3 conference wrestling tournaments

Three high school wrestling conference tournaments will be Saturday. Weigh-ins for each will be at 8 a.m., and wrestling will begin at 9:

-- Southwestern 4A, at East Mecklenburg: Butler has five wrestlers in the state rankings - Tom Puckett (119 pounds), Dalton Cunningham (135), Austin Long (145), Nate Charest (160) and Austin Bumgarner (189). Myers Park’s George Haddock is the state’s top-ranked 215-pounder in 4A, and teammates Clark O’Bannon (135), Robert Warren (171) and Samuel McArthur (125) are ranked.
Other ranked wrestlers are East Mecklenburg’s Peter Baseda (112), South Mecklenburg’s Garrett Woods (112), Ardrey Kell’s Mark Judy (130) and Jordan Nevseta (171), and Independence’s Jayme Watson (285).

-- ME-CA 7 4A, at Mallard Creek: Concord Robinson should dominate the lower weight classes. Dominic Parisi, a reigning state champion, is top-ranked in the state at 119 pounds, and Garrison White is No. 2 at 103 pounds. Other ranked Bulldogs are Jay Similton (125), James White (135), Jake Eldridge (140), Patrick Oakley (145) and Zac Simpson (160).
Other ranked wrestlers are Mallard Creek’s Michiah Miller (119) and Tyrell Walker (171) and Hopewell’s Joseph Acquarulo (119).

-- Queen City 3A/4A, at Berry: Charlotte Catholic’s Eric Hogue is No. 3 in the state 3A rankings at 145 pounds. Other ranked wrestlers are Catholic’s Zach Priester (130) and Waddell’s Tyler Gardner (145).

The top 16 wrestlers in each weight class in the region - based on their regular season won-loss percentage - will qualify for the individual regionals Feb.13-14.

Dual-team playoffs begin Tuesday. The dual-team championships will be Feb. 9.

The Charlotte Independent Schools Athletic Association tournament will be next Saturday at Charlotte Country Day.

Rock Hill and Rock Hill South Pointe will host first-round matches in the S.C. 4A dual team playoffs Monday. Lancaster will open the 4A playoffs on the road.
