Matt Beam is new football coach at Burns

Former North Lincoln head coach Matt Beam is the new coach at Lawndale Burns, Burns principal Gary Blake said Tuesday.

“We’re very excited about having Mr. Beam at Burns High School,” Blake said. “He’s proven to be a winner and that he can sustain a program.”

Beam led his teams to playoffs in each of his four years at North Lincoln , including the Knights' first playoff win and first double-digit winning season total in 2007.

Beam will teach physical education at Burns. He graduated from East Lincoln in 1995, where he was all-conference in football, basketball and track. He holds a degree in physical education from Appalachian State and has coached at East Lincoln and South Mecklenburg. He and his wife Ashley have two children: 3-year-old Jackson and 10-month-old Davis.

Beam said he hoped to start at his new school next month.

“I’m absolutely honored to go to such a great football school,” he said. “I look forward to getting up there and being a coach and teacher. I’m excited about having the opportunity to coach these young men.”
