Harding's Aikens commits to Illinois

Harding High's Walter Aikens, who led the football team in passing and rushing, has committed to Illinois, his father, Walter Sr. told the Observer.

Aikens Jr. is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound quarterback who accounted for more than 1,500 yards in total offense for the Rams.

Aikens Sr., who is Harding's boys' basketball coach, said his son will "most likely" play cornerback and wide receiver at Illinois.

This is no surprise. Aikens could be the football Steph Curry. I hope that the ACC and SEC did not pass on this athlete.I saw him play basketball last night. I agree with Langston, he may be the best overall athlete in Mecklenburg County. He can jump out of the gym and has amazing control. Illinois is getting someone special.
