Providence Day star a soccer All-American

Providence Day defender Eric Martinez was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association/adidas High School All-America Team.

He is one of three North Carolina players on the squad, with goalkeeper Scott Goodwin (Raleigh Broughton) and midfielder Ben Newnam (East Forsyth).

Martinez, who has committed to South Carolina, was named one of the top 10 recruits in the country by ESPN.

Martinez is the second Providence Day player to be an NSCA All-American. The other was Grant Porter in 1999. The All-America selections are invited to the annual All-America Luncheon, in St. Louis on Jan. 17, as part of the NSCA Convention.
