Porter Ridge golfer named player of year

Indian Trail Porter Ridge senior girls golfer Courtney Gunter (above and in inset) is the 2008 Tarheel Youth Golf Association N.C. player of the year.

Gunter, headed to North Carolina, won her third straight N.C. High School Athletic Association state championship this season. She was also named to multiple All-America teams.
Gunter played 15 junior events this fall and finished in the top ten eight times.

Also named to the first team were Gastonia's Courtney Taylor of Gastonia, the Dogwood State Junior champion; Sarah Almond of Albemarle, who qualified for the U.S. Women’s Open; Meghan Moore of Bahama, runner-up in the Rex Hospital Pro-Junior; Courtney McKim of Raleigh, winner of the AJGA Randy Wise Junior; Sarah Bae of Raleigh, winner of the Coastal Plains Junior; Jessica Hook of Wilmington, runner-up in the NC Junior and Twin State Championships; Katie Kirk of Davidson, winner of the Ken & Betty Isaac Junior; Katherine Perry of Cary, winner of the NC Trusted Choice Big "I" Junior; and Shannon Prunty of Oak Ridge, winner of the Precision Golf Girls' Championship.
