Nixon, Lattimore honored by Gatorade

Fayetteville Britt offensive tackle Xavier Nixon was named Gatorade N.C. Player of the Year.
Nixon, 6-foot-6 and 285 pounds, anchored a line that has rushed for more than 4,000 yards heading into this weekend’s championship game.

Nixon, picked for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl and Shrine Bowl, has 76 pancake blocks. He was all-state as a junior last year, and as a defensive lineman has 35 tackles, including nine for losses, along with one sack and two forced fumbles while starting eight games. Nixon has a B average, has volunteered as a mentor to elementary students and special-needs children, as a youth football camp coach and as part of service missions with New Mercy Ministries in Chesapeake , Va.


Duncan Byrnes running back Marcus Lattimore is the Gatorade S.C. Player of the Year.

Lattimore, a junior, rushed for 2,419 yards and 30 touchdowns, helping the Rebels (14-1) win their sixth title in seven years. He had 305 yards and four touchdowns in the championship, a 31-21 victory against Sumter.

Lattimore has a 3.44 GPA. He is active at church, and has volunteered as a mentor for elementary students.
