Area football players make commitments

Three Charlotte-area high school football players, all seniors, committed to colleges Wednesday:

■Myers Park defensive end Brian Johnson committed to Western Carolina.
Johnson, 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, was an All-Southwestern 4A pick this season. He had 51 tackles, four sacks, seven quarterback hurries and a deflected pass.

■Myers Park quarterback Stuart Ahlum committed to Princeton.
Ahlum (6-5, 220) threw for 1,392 yards and 15 touchdowns this season.

■ Hopewell defensive end Wes Reber committed to Virginia Military Institute.
Reber (6-1, 200) was an All-MECA 7 4A pick this season, when he had 75 tackles, nine sakcs, five quarterback hurries and a fumble recovery.

Brian Johnson appears to be a player.....grades must have kept him from going to NC State
