South Pointe's Gilmore commits to USC

Rock Hill South Pointe’s Stephon Gilmore, a quarterback who is being recruited as a defensive back, committed to South Carolina.

Gilmore, 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, was recruited by dozens of Division I schools and considered Alabama as the other finalist.

Gilmore has helped South Pointe (7-0) to rankings in most national polls, and No. 2 in the Observer Sweet 16. He hasn’t played defense full-time, but has 11 tackles, a recovered fumble, three pass breakups and one tackle for a loss.

Gilmore has rushed 54 times for 599 yards and 11 touchdowns. He is 50-of-80 passing for 727 yards and four touchdowns.`

Gilmore plans to graduate in January and enroll in South Carolina so he can participate in spring practice.
